A lesser-known set of illustrations I produced was for the venerable Cricket Magazine, an illustrated children’s magazine that has been published since 1973. I was contacted by them quite out of the blue, and worked on six issues from 2004-2005. Most of what I did for them were retellings of Greek and other myths, which was appropriate enough.

I loved imagining the Oracle of Delphi, and imagined a portrayal full of mystery and mysticism. In the scene, King Aegeus comes to inquire of her, but I focused my illustration on her, here. Initially I didn’t have her hair free, but I think I decided to let it go wild to help obscure her face more and give the whole thing a more wild sense of mystery.
